Tony R. Spiegel, 72, of Mount Vernon died on Saturday morning, September 26, 2026 at the Mount Vernon Healthcare Center. He was born on May 16, 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late William and Minnie (Ewell) Spiegel.
Tony honorably served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for the State of Ohio as a Social Worker, serving the developmentally disabled, youth in correction institutions and those suffering from poor mental health. Tony was honored for his distinctive work by Senator Mike Dewine, having a flag flown over the United States Capital in 2002. Tony was a member of Saint John the Baptist Parish attending Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and the Knights of Columbus Council 847 serving one term as President. As a youth Tony played the piano, guitar and trumpet. His passion was being a H.A.M. Radio Operator. His call sign is KC8UR. He volunteered for and held a license for the Army in the MARS (Military Affiliate Radio System) program and was recognized year after year for his distinctive participation with over 500 hours in volunteer service. He was also honored for the Samuel F.B. Morse Bicentennial Morse code proficiency award in 1991. Other hobbies included bee keeping and photography.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Jessica (Jeremy) Myser of Mount Vernon; and grandsons, Henry and Jack, sister Patricia (Spiegel) Wilson and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Hope (West) Spiegel, brother Edward Spiegel and sister Martha (Spiegel) Palello.
The family will receive friends from 5- 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (200 block of East High St., Mount Vernon) with Rev. Father PJ Brandimarti as the Celebrant. Burial will follow in Brandon Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
