MOUNT VERNON — The City of Mount Vernon, in partnership with Kenyon College’s Center for the Study of American Democracy, invites the public to the September installment of the Washington Forum on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Municipal Center, 236 S. Main St.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
Titled “The Republic Between Us,” the live panel discussion brings together local residents representing four generations currently shaping community life: the Baby Boom generation, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. The panel will explore how each generation receives information, engages in local life, and practices citizenship, both in its own daily habits and across generations.
The panel features Jerry Scott representing the Baby Boom generation, Dena Hess
representing Generation X, Kale Oswalt representing Generation Z, and Zac Sherman
representing the Millennials.
The discussion will be moderated by Madison Sarver, public information officer for the City of Mount Vernon.
Rather than a lecture or a debate on national politics, this hometown conversation focuses on media, belonging, and shared public life. Panelists will discuss how local news travels from traditional newspapers to social media feeds to conversations on the Square, and what “being a citizen” looks like.
The audience will also be invited to participate throughout the evening with questions and opportunities to weigh in.
The Washington Forum is a yearlong civic series presented as part of the City’s America 250 programming. Monthly events explore civic life, governance, history, and the responsibilities of citizenship, guided by the character and public virtue associated with George Washington.
