James G. “Greg” Scott, 79, of Amity died on Thursday morning, September 24, 2026 at Knox Community Hospital. He was born on April 28, 1947 in Mount Vernon to the late John James and Reva Jean (Auten) Scott.
Greg was the proud owner operator of Mount Vernon Waste trash company for the last 27 years. Through his work he has built many relationships with his customers, employees, friends and neighbors. Over his life time he has put over a million miles over the road. He always said his job was never work it was just a hobby. Seeing his grandson want to follow in his footsteps really made him proud. He was a long time member of the Moose Lodge 2555. Family and friends often joked that it was the office of Mount Vernon Waste. His greatest joy was his family. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be cherished by his wife, daughter, grandchildren, family, friends and all those who had the privelage of knowing him.
Greg is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” (Blair) Scott; daughter, Phyllis (Dennis) Colopy of Howard; and grandchildren, Shelby and Bryce Colopy.
In addition to his parents, Greg was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Lee Colopy.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 28, 2026 in Amity Cemetery. Please join the family after the service at Dennis and Phyllis’s home 16561 Butts Rd in Howard.
