MOUNT VERNON – The Knox Educational Service Center’s four preschool sites will welcome parents, grandparents and others to Family Fun Night on Thursday, Sept. 24.
A variety of interactive activities are planned to demonstrate how 3- to 5-year-olds explore literacy, math, science and art while developing social skills through play-based learning.
Family Fun Night will be 4 to 6 p.m. at Mount Vernon New Hope, and at the preschools located in the Fredericktown Local Schools administration building and the Centerburg Local Schools administration building. Hours will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the preschool rooms at East Knox High School.
“We’re eager to have families join their children on Thursday,” said preschools Director Jackie Nutt. “There will be many fun things to do. Our play-based program is patterned on research that shows that’s the way kids learn best. Children learn through play. That’s when they are most receptive.
“Family Fun Night is one of many ways the preschool staff works to build relationships between home and school.”
The following is a partial list of what’s planned:
– Mount Vernon New Hope: Making tambourines, playdough and pumpkin faces; a science sink or float activity.
– Centerburg: Using math skills to measure, count and follow directions to make a fun trail mix; making bead bracelets and tambourines; painting family leaves to add to the family tree in the hallway; a science float or sink activity.
– Fredericktown: Pumpkin bowling; exploring the inside of a pumpkin; graphing leaves by size and color.
– East Knox: Making pumpkin pie in a cup; gross motor competition and sensory activity; using leaf cutouts to create our names; slime fun!
Morning and afternoon classes are offered Monday through Thursday at each preschool site. All classrooms are licensed by the Ohio Department of Education and staffed by certified early childhood education professionals.
Knox ESC Superintendent Dr. Timm Mackley echoed Nutt’s welcome to Family Fun Night.
“Our preschool program is one of the most important services we provide because it gives very young children a solid foundation for their educational journey,” Mackley said. “We welcome all children, including those with special needs.”
