MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Foundation is once again partnering with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office to bring Charitable University to Knox County.

This free training for current and prospective nonprofit board members and nonprofit leaders will be held Thursday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Ramser 4-H Center at the Knox County Fairgrounds.

Charitable University provides practical information and resources to help nonprofit leaders serve their organizations effectively. The training will cover board governance and policies, financial reporting and internal controls, fundraising, government filings and recordkeeping, charitable gaming and bingo.

“Strong nonprofit organizations depend on informed, engaged leaders,” said Lisa Lloyd, senior program director at Knox County Foundation.

“We’re pleased to bring Charitable University back to Knox County and give both new and experienced board members an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and better serve their organizations.”

Practical information and resources help nonprofit leaders

Knox County Foundation first offered Charitable University locally in November 2022, when more than 100 individuals participated in the training.

“Having served on boards for many years, I thought I was familiar with the rules and responsibilities of board service,” said Austin Swallow, Food for the Hungry Board chair and a past Charitable University participant.

“I walked away surprised by how much new information I learned and how valuable the training was. What could be considered dry material was presented in a very engaging way.”

Charitable University certification is valid for three years, so those who completed the training in 2022 are now eligible to recertify. New and prospective board members and nonprofit leaders are also encouraged to attend.

Participants who complete the training will receive a Charitable University completion certificate from the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

A light breakfast and coffee will be served from 8:30 to 9 a.m., with training beginning at 9 a.m.
