MOUNT VERNON – The City of Mount Vernon invites community members, first responders, and local veterans to gather at Ariel-Foundation Park for a special ceremony recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The outdoor remembrance event will take place at Rastin Tower on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, beginning promptly at 8:30 a.m.
The morning program will open with the presentation of the Colors, followed by the National Anthem.
At 8:46 a.m., the precise moment American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center, attendees will observe a moment of silence led by a local chaplain to pay tribute to the lives lost and the sacrifices made on that tragic morning.
Following formal remarks, local first responders and participants will take part in a memorial tower climb at Rastin Tower.
Climbers wearing full gear and backpacks will ascend the structure while reading aloud the names of victims and fallen heroes in remembrance of their sacrifice.
