CLEVELAND — Ariel Atkinson, a graduate of East Knox High School, has received a $10,000 award from the Medical Mutual Scholarship Fund for Customer Schools.
The Medical Mutual Scholarship Fund for Customer Schools recognizes outstanding academic achievement and a commitment to community. In 2026, the program received more than 600 applications from graduating seniors at Medical Mutual customer high schools throughout Ohio.
Atkinson is one of six $10,000 award recipients. She will begin her studies at the University of North Carolina Wilmington this fall, majoring in nursing.
In her scholarship application essay, Atkinson shared her goal of helping save lives and care for people during their most vulnerable moments.
Since 2005, Ohio-based health insurer Medical Mutual has supported its Scholarship Fund for Customer Schools, and in 2017 began partnering with the Columbus Foundation to administer the program. Since that time, the company has awarded more than $1.5 million in scholarships — helping students take meaningful steps toward their futures.
