Evelyn B. Pinner
JOHNSTOWN- Evelyn Beatrice (Hock) Pinner, 87, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, with family and loving caregivers nearby.

She was born May 7, 1939 in Cleveland to the late Harvey W. and Lillian B. (Duerk) Hock. She was a 1957 graduate of Parma High School, and married her high school sweetheart, Charles W. Pinner. He preceded her in death after almost 60 years of marriage.

Evelyn was proud to share with her family and friends about working with her Dad at the Cleveland Plain Dealer in the classified ad department after she graduated from high school. She spent the majority of her life as a homemaker and being the best wife & mother a family could have. Her biggest laughs and smiles were when she was with family and friends, and her grandkids and great grandkids were her best entertainment later in her life.

Evelyn had the beautiful gift of using her hands for cross-stitch and sewing, making one-of-a-kind gifts that included quilts, stuffed toys, clothing, and Christmas decor that most of her family received as Christmas gifts annually. Her amazing craft will be our life-long reminder of her love for her family and friends, and the patience and care she gave all of us and her craft.

Evelyn lived an active life in both assisted living and skilled nursing, where she was engaged in social activities, and welcoming new residents as they moved in. Her favorite pastime was playing the card game “Five Crowns”, and teaching others how to play the game was her passion. She was a tough opponent, winning many games, and keeping her best game scorecard of “zero points” to share with friends and family.

Later in her life, Evelyn often asked to pray “The Lord’s Prayer” (Matthew 6:9-13). She would often want to pray this prayer with her family and the loving nurses and aides who would help her pray. God gave her, and those praying with her, comfort and peace in seeking Him through prayer.

She loved her family, and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren so much. The family legacy she leaves behind includes her children, Deborah Ann Schaefer, Diane Audrey (Brent) Simms, and Donna Alline (Damian) Hopkins; grandchildren, Christopher Schaefer, Kevin (Amanda) Schaefer, Taylor Merriman, Chad (Michelle) Simms, Andrew (Katy) Simms, Kylie (James) Strapp, Daniel (Sarah) Simms, Kasandra (Ashton) Hoy, and Sydney Hopkins; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Avery, Eli, Charles, Thomas, Noah, Audrey, Maddison, Allyson, Kenzlee, Otto, and Gracelyn; a sister, Judy (Karen) Masa; brothers-in-law, Darryl (JoAnn) Pinner , Steve (Judy) Pinner , Jeff Pinner, and Harry “Bud” Ponton; a sister-in-law, Gloria Pinner; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by a son, David Anthony Pinner; a sister, Marie Ponton; son-in-law, Greg Schaefer; brother-in-law, Robert Pinner; sister-in-law, Andrea Pinner; and her father-in-law & mother-in-law, Robert H. & Audrey K. (Stephens) Pinner.

A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Lifepoint Church, 800 W. Central Ave. Delaware, OH 43015, with Pastor Kale Booher officiating.
