Carole G. (McMains) Fiant, 77 of Gambier passed away on August 24, 2024 in Mount Vernon, OH. She was born on January 10, 1947 to Roy and Blanche (Horn) McMains in Mt. Vernon, OH.
Carole was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, wife, aunt and friend who found joy in life’s simple pleasures — reading a good book, traveling, attending Broadway shows, and cheering passionately for her favorite sports teams. If it was game time, you could always find her rooting on the Cincinnati Reds, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Bengals, usually with a book in her hand. Carole enjoyed watching any kind of sporting events. She also enjoyed taking annual bus trips to New York City around the holidays. Carole loved Broadway shows and musicals, which she instilled that love of shows into her children and grandchildren.
Family remembered fondly hearing the words of the Reds radio announcer, Joe Nuxall signing off from his broadcast, “This is the Ol’ left hander rounding third and heading for home.” If she couldn’t watch the Reds, she was listening on the radio.
A devoted homemaker for many years, Carole later began working outside the home once her children were older. She retired from Kenyon College, where she worked for many years in the Security and Safety Department and built many lasting friendships.
Carole was a kind and loving soul who is missed by everyone who had the joy of knowing her.
Carole is survived by her children Kimberly (Paul) Mommessin of Vienna, WV, Kevin (Christina) Fiant of Delaware, OH and Kelly (Courtenay) Biggs of Howard, OH; grandchildren Andrew Mommessin, Ellie Mommessin, Nathan Fiant, Natalie Fiant, Ethan Biggs and Sydney Biggs; twin sister Cheryl Hunter of Pacific City, Oregon; and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Carole was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Charles Hunter and her parents.
