Melissa Hammond, 57, passed away May 28th in her home in Fredericktown. She was born to parents Gerald and Annetta Mathias.
She graduated from New Riegel High School in 1987 and Mount Vernon Nazarene University and was studying nursing at Central Ohio Technical College. Melissa is survived by three children, Brittney (Chris) Needles, Jayden Hammond, and Alexa Hammond; siblings Connie (Gene) Parish, Larry (Mary) Mathias, Danny (Laura) Mathias, and Robert (Tammy) Mathias; and mother, Annetta (Gerald) Mathias.
Melissa was predeceased by her father Gerald Mathias, and her son, Jeremiah Hammond.
Melissa was a loving daughter, sister, mother, and friend. She strived in higher education to improve herself and to help others, including recently returning to school for nursing. She loved traveling, especially to warm places with beaches, and planning fun events to spend time with friends and family.
The family will receive friends at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel 619 E High St, Mount Vernon, on Monday June 8th from 4pm-8pm. The Rosary will be recited at following the visitation.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Vincent de Paul Church in Mount Vernon on Tuesday June 9th at 10am with Very Rev. Monsignor Mark J. Hammond, VF as the Celebrant The burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
