Michael J. Deem Sr, age 73, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the Ohio State University Hospital.
He was born on May 28, 1952, in Mount Vernon. Michael was a member of the Exchange Club, the Fraternal Order of Elks #140 where he served as the past Exulted Ruler two times, Mount Zion Lodge #9 F&AM Mount Vernon, and Amvets Post #95 where he was Commander for over 17 years. Michael was an avid gun collector and enjoyed American History. He also enjoyed being Santa Claus for many years. Michael was a Knox County Deputy Sheriff and later a Bayliff at the Knox County Courthouse. He was a veteran Serving in the United States Army from 1972 – 1974.
He is survived by his wife, of over 50 years, Debra (Payne) Deem; his son Michael Deem Jr; his daughter Jeana (Jeff Guilherme) Conley; his grandson Chase Guilherme; his brother Sam Deem; and his sisters Sharon Koch and Carole Miller.
Friends may call on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at the Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel (11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. Mt. Vernon) from 5-7pm. A graveside service, provided by the Knox County Joint Veteran’s Council, will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Mound View Cemetery beginning at 11am with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating.
