MARENGO — Mount Vernon’s boys and girls track teams placed second behind Jonathan Alder at the annual Fredericktown Invitational on Friday.

The Yellow Jackets racked up 122 points (compared to 134 for the winners), while the Lady Jackets scored 116 (while the Pioneers had 125).

Mount Vernon’s Calvin Heithaus turned in another PR in the boys 800, clocking 1:59.28. The time earned him a qualifying berth in the New Balance Nationals freshman division.

Highland High School hosted the meet because Fredericktown’s track is undergoing renovations. Temperatures hovered around 40 degrees under overcast skies with occasional sprinkles of rain.

Other area teams competing in the 13-team field include East Knox, Centerburg, Utica, Highland, and Fredericktown.

On the boys side, Highland, Utica, and East Knox placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively. Centerburg tied with Crestview for sixth, and Fredericktown placed eighth.

For the girls, East Knox and Utica placed fourth and fifth. Fredericktown and Highland tied for sixth, while Centerburg placed 11th.
