HOWARD — One member of the East Knox FFA recently qualified from an online test to compete in the State Veterinary Science Career Development Event at the University of Findlay Animal Science Center in Findlay.

Ava Page was 13th individual on the online test to qualify for the state event. To compete at the Ohio FFA Veterinary Science CDE State Finals Event you have to be one of the top 150 highest-scoring contestants on the online test.

The Veterinary Science CDE is designed to assess the skills and knowledge that students must possess to prepare for post-secondary education and/or work in an animal health occupation, such as in a veterinarian’s office or in an animal research facility.

This year’s practicums included:  cat restraint for a catheter; ear tagging; fine needle biopsy; haltering ruminants; identification of equipment and materials; identification of parasitic/microscopic organisms; and identification of breeds and species.

Page finished 53rd overall in the state contest.
