HOWARD — Three members of the East Knox FFA recently competed in the District 7 FFA Outdoor Power Equipment Career Development Event held at Southeastern High School in Chillicothe.

The team took 8th place overall in the six-county District 7 event which consists of 31 schools that have FFAs.

The District is composed of Knox, Licking, Fairfield, Franklin, Pickaway, and Ross Counties and Clear Fork Schools out of Richland County. The top two teams from each of Ohio’s 10 FFA districts advanced to the state competition.

The Outdoor Power Equipment Career Development Event is an extension of the Ag Ed classroom and laboratory.

Additionally, this CDE serves as an authentic assessment designed to evaluate students’ knowledge in recognizing and repairing malfunctions in outdoor power equipment.

The skills these students employ in this CDE are the same skills required by outdoor power equipment technicians.

In this year’s contest the practicums were:  online test, micrometer readings, reading an owners manual, tool ID, determining types and uses of oils, small engine parts ID, completing work orders, bore/stroke calculations, and a team troubleshooting station. Â
