Karen L. Gallwitz, 83, of Mount Vernon died on Monday, March 2, 2026 at the Laurels of Mount Vernon with her family by her side. She was born on March 20, 1942 in Clarksburg, West Virginia to the late John and Madeline (Nogar) Kymer.

Karen graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1960. She enjoyed crocheting, oil painting, making stained glass, going fishing with her husband, Wayne at Lake Erie, helping with the repairs on the house, but most of all she loved attending the grandchildren’s activities.

Karen is survived by her husband over 66 years, Wayne Gallwitz; her children, Dawn Stewart of Grove City, PA, Darrell (Jackie) Gallwitz of Apple Valley, and Denise Gallwitz of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Lacy (Toby) Holt of Mount Vernon, Erica Ferrell of Columbus, and Kelli (Cody) Redfoot of Grove City, PA; great grandchildren, Landon (Addison Snyder) Holt, Mason Holt, Evan Moussa, Zaniyah McCord, Reese Redfoot and Ryder Redfoot; great great grandchild, Dricus Holt; sister, Phyllis Sipes of Ashley; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a grandson, Clinton Stewart; and sisters, Barbara Kymer, Virginia Doup, Betty Magers and Frances Wilcox.

The family will have a celebration of life service for Karen at 2 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Dowds Chapel, 201 Newark Rd., Mount Vernon with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Laurels of Mount Vernon and Luminary Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Karen.
