Donald Arthur Yauger, age 96, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at The Ohio Eastern Star Home. He was born on July 25, 1929, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Dorothy (Cassell) Yauger.
After graduating High School, Don joined the United States Navy and served his country proudly. He was a farmer and could tell you all about the farming history in the county. Don was a Knox County Commissioner for 16 years, and a Clinton Township Trustee for 11 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Mount Vernon, and the Mount Zion Masonic Lodge #9 F&AM, Valley of Columbus 32 degree and Alladin Shrine Club. Don was instrumental in developing the Kokosing Gap Trail in Mount Vernon and Gambier. He loved gardening, farming, Ohio State Buckeyes and later in life started writing and wrote three books. He enjoyed playing cards with friends and family.
Don is survived by his daughters, Suzy (Tom) Mechling, Robyn Davis, Amy Yauger, Holly (Mark) Miller; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and a sister, Jane Ruscher.
Along with his parents, Don is preceded in death by his wife, Jeannine (Porter) Yauger; and a son, John A. Yauger.
Private services will be observed by the family.
