About the event:
Between the World and Me is Ta-Nehisi Coates’s attempt to reckon with the role of race in American society and history.
In the form of a letter to his adolescent son, the author shares the story of his awakening to the truth about his place in American culture through a series of revelatory experiences, from Howard University to Civil War battlefields, from the South Side of Chicago to Paris, from his childhood home to the living
rooms of mothers whose children’s lives were taken far too soon.
A decade ago, it won the National Book Award, the Kirkus Prize for Nonfiction, and was designated
one of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century. Does it remain relevant today?
Read the book. We should talk about it.
