Mt. Vernon topped Newark Licking Valley 46-45 in a tough tilt in an Ohio boys basketball matchup on Jan. 23.

Mt. Vernon opened with a 19-17 advantage over Newark Licking Valley through the first quarter.

The scoreboard showed the Panthers with a 26-24 lead over the Yellow Jackets heading into the second quarter.

Mt. Vernon broke in front at the beginning of the final quarter with a 34-33 lead over Newark Licking Valley.

Neither team could gain any advantage in the final quarter.

In recent action on Jan. 13, Newark Licking Valley faced off against Pataskala Licking Hts. and Mt. Vernon took on Pataskala Licking Hts. on Jan. 16 at Licking Heights High School.
