MOUNT VERNON — Mothers Against Drunk Driving recently recognized three Mount Vernon police officers for their efforts to remove impaired drivers from the roadways.

MADD honored Patrolmen John Cox, Josh Neely, and Andreas Cotter at its annual luncheon on Dec. 11 in Columbus.

Cox recorded 36 OVIs (operating a vehicle impaired). Neely and Cotter recorded 31 each.

This is the second time MADD recognized Neely.

The Mount Vernon Police Department honored Cox and Cotter at its annual banquet in February for their exceptional work ethic and proactive policing efforts in 2024.

Patrol Commander Lt. Qade Lewis submitted the names and stats to MADD.

“Patrolmen Cotter, Cox, and Neely’s recognition as MADD award recipients highlights their outstanding dedication to OVI enforcement and traffic safety,” Lewis said.

“Their commitment and countless hours of effort demonstrate a deep dedication to keeping our community safe.”

Lewis said the officers’ work reflects the values of the entire division, whose teamwork made for a strong year.

“The momentum built this year will continue to drive our efforts to keep our roadways and community safe. To our officers, well done. This is definitely something to be proud of,” Lewis said.
