Karen J. Ausec, age 82, of Mount Vernon passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at Danbury with her family at her side.

She was born on August 29, 1943 in Denver, Colorado to the late James and Henrietta (Fuchtman) Jensen.

Karen graduated from Alverno College and worked briefly in a biology lab before she became a full-time mom to her three children. As a young person, she was active in 4-H, worked on her family’s small farm, and enjoyed being mischievous. In her working career as a tough, strong, damn fine-looking Ausec woman, she worked for Van Buren Township, and then for Parke-Davis where she held a position in Document Control, specifically for one of the first drugs to treat Alzheimer’s. An avid reader, she enjoyed reading to her children and grandchildren and was thrilled to meet her great-grandchildren.

She is survived by three children, Marne Ausec of Mount Vernon, John (Angie) Ausec of Fishers, Indiana, and Pauline (Kadry) Ebrahim of Ann Arbor, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Johnny, Spencer, Connor, Taha, Amina, and Marisol; two great-grandchildren, Aria and Johnny; and a brother, Chris Jensen.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, John L. Ausec; grandson Solomon Ebrahim, and her brothers Jim, Chuck and Soren.

Memorial contributions may be made to: The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon OH 43050 or any public library of your choice.

A celebration of life will take place in 2026.
