MOUNT VERNON — Below is a list of criminal court cases that resulted in a sentence in the Knox County Common Pleas Court in October.
Oct. 9
— Jason W. Moran, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a one-year term of community control and 180 days in Knox County jail with credit for two days served for theft and/or grand theft (fifth-degree felony).
Moran must submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment, comply with recommended treatment, submit to a term of drug and alcohol monitoring, maintain a full-time job and pay $650 in prosecution costs to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office within six months.
— Kelly M. Marzolino, McConnelsvillle, was sentenced to serve a one-year term of community control and 180 days in Knox County jail with credit for 23 days served for a fifth-degree felony possession of a fentanyl-related compound charge.
Marzolino’s jail time can be suspended on the condition she enters into and completes the Cedar Ridge Residential Program, submits to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment, complies with recommended treatment, submits to a term of drug and alcohol monitoring and maintains a full-time job.
— Frederick M. Murphy Jr., Utica, was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 30 months for a third-degree felony possession of drugs charge.
Murphy was credited with 100 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
The defendant was also ordered to forfeit $314 to the Mount Vernon Police Department, and the court assessed a mandatory $5,000 fine, which was vacated due to indigency.
Oct. 16
— Deandre L. Smith II, Loudonville, was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 30 months for a third-degree felony possession of drugs charge.
Smith was credited with 372 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
The court assessed a mandatory $5,000 fine, which was vacated due to indigency.
— Brandy Jo Butcher, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a one-year term of community control and 60 days in Knox County jail with credit for 59 days served for a fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs charge and a second-degree misdemeanor possessing drug abuse instruments charge.
Butcher must submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment, comply with recommended treatment and submit to a term of drug and alcohol monitoring.
— Brandy Jo Butcher, Mount Vernon, (separate case) was sentenced to a one-year term of community control and 62 days in Knox County jail with credit for 62 days served for a fifth-degree felony breaking and entering charge.
Butcher must submit to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment, comply with recommended treatment and submit to a term of drug and alcohol monitoring.
— Timothy E. Woods, Columbus, was sentenced to serve three 17-month definite terms of imprisonment consecutively for three fourth-degree felony receiving stolen property charges.
Woods was credited with 91 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
The court’s online records state that, “the balance of the deposit from the electronic monitoring device shall be applied to costs, and any remaining money on deposit shall be refunded to the depositor.”
— Keith W. Carder, Galion, was sentenced to serve four 60-month definite terms of imprisonment consecutively for four third-degree felony sexual battery charges.
Carder was credited with 373 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
Additionally, the court determined Carder to be a Tier III sex offender/child victim offender registrant.
— Frederick M. Murphy Jr., Utica, (separate case) was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 30 months for a third-degree felony possession of drugs charge.
Murphy was credited with 100 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
The court ordered Murphy to forfeit $314 to the Mount Vernon Police Department and pay a mandatory $5,000 fine, which was vacated due to indigency.
— Jeremy P. Reardon, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a two-year term of community control and 180 days in Knox County jail for a fourth-degree felony charge.
The court credited Reardon with 155 days served.
The remainder of Reardon’s jail time can be suspended as long as he completes the West Central Community Based Correctional Facility’s treatment program, submits to an outpatient drug and alcohol assessment, complies with recommended treatment, submits to a term of drug and alcohol use monitoring and maintains a full-time job.
— Michael K. Anderson, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve an indefinite term of imprisonment with a minimum term of four years and a maximum term of six years for a second-degree felonious assault charge.
Anderson was given credit for 498 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
Oct. 29
— Deandre L. Smith II, Loudonville, (separate case) was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 30 months for a third-degree felony possession of drugs charge.
Smith was credited with 372 days served and future days as he awaits transportation to the proper institution.
The court assessed a mandatory $5,000 fine, which was vacated due to indigency.

The court credited Anderson with 498 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
Oct. 30
Scott K. Sowders, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 17 months for a fourth-degree felony gross sexual imposition charge.
Sowders was credited with 248 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
The court determined Sowders to be a Tier I sex offender/child victim offender registrant.
— James C. Beach, Howard, was sentenced to serve a one-year term of monitored time by an Adult Court Services officer and one day in Knox County jail for a fifth-degree felony aggravated possession of drugs charge.
Beach was credited with one day served and cannot get any jailable offenses for one year.
— Teddy J. Jencson, Mount Vernon, was sentenced to serve a definite term of imprisonment of 18 months for a third-degree felony having weapons under disability charge.
Jencson was credited with 10 days served and future days while awaiting transportation to the appropriate institution.
