MOUNT VERNON — The City of Mount Vernon will begin its city-wide leaf pick-up on Monday, Nov. 3.
Crews will make two complete passes through the entire city using three leaf collection machines.
We will begin on main roads and then move into outlying neighborhoods. Please note that weather conditions, the amount of leaf piles, and mechanical issues can make it difficult to predict exactly when crews will reach specific streets.
We anticipate each round will take 8 to 10 days to complete. Residents are encouraged to get leaves raked to the curb as soon as possible.
Important Guidelines:
- Rake leaves to the curb — not into the street. Leaves in the street can clog storm sewers and cause drainage problems.
- Do not pile leaves around trees, fire hydrants, signposts, mailboxes, or near intersections.
- Avoid parking vehicles near leaf piles to ensure access for collection equipment.
Alternative drop-off option
Residents may also take loose leaves to the Knox County Yard Waste and Compost Facility 7425 Thayer Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050, open seven days a week.
Please remember: the drop-off area is for loose leaves only. All bags or containers must be removed after emptying.
