MOUNT VERNON — The Yellow Jackets will renew a football rivalry in the the postseason.

Mount Vernon earned the No. 10 seed in the Division II, Region 7 playoffs and will travel to No. 7 Ashland for an opening-round game Friday at 7 p.m.

The Yellow Jackets (6-4) and Arrows (9-1) were members of the Ohio Cardinal Conference before Mount Vernon left for the Licking County League in the fall of 2024.

Ashland was the OCC runner-up, falling to Lexington 43-35 in the regular season finale.

Mount Vernon earned a postseason berth for the first time since 1993. The Yellow Jackets competed in the playoffs in 2020, when all schools were eligible to participate.

Mount Vernon is one of four Knox County schools to advance to the playoffs. 

Fredericktown earned the No. 10 seed in Region 18 of Division V. The Freddies (8-2) will travel to No. 7 Fairview Park Fairview on Friday.

Danville (5-5) will also be in action Friday. The Blue Devils locked up the No. 11 seed in Region 27 of Division VII and will visit No. 6 Steubenville Catholic Central (6-4) on Friday.

Centerburg earned the No. 1 seed in Division I VI, Region 23. The Trojans have a first-round bye and will host either Ridgewood or Newcomerstown in a regional quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Nov. 7.
