Centerburg Elementary School,

CENTERBURG — On Oct. 14, Centerburg Superintendent Ryan Gallwitz released a statement about a recent issue at Centerburg’s elementary school.

Within Gallwitz’s statement, was the paragraph below about a second grade student.

“Recently, an incident took place at the elementary school, and we did not notify parents effectively. Specifically, a 2nd grade student verbalized a list of students she wanted to die/or kill,” Gallwitz’s statement reads.

The statement went on to say that students were never in any danger and the staff “quickly removed and disciplined the student appropriately.”

Gallwitz apologized to those frustrated and confused by the timeliness it took for a statement from the district.

“Moving forward we will work hard to regain your trust by increasing the communication coming from the district,” the statement reads.

“In the future, you should expect to see more district wide notices, emails, and texts regarding our emergency drills, school delays, lockdowns, and threats. You will also see messages including the great things happening in our district too.”

The statement also referenced two issues with teachers within the Centerburg district.

More information on the teacher-related issues will be reported on in upcoming Knox Pages articles. Gallwitz’s full statement is provided below.
