MOUNT VERNON — Voters in three Mount Vernon precincts will see liquor options on their Nov. 4 ballot.

Ohio’s wet-dry laws affect where, when, and how alcohol is sold at the precinct level.

In June, the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control awarded an agency store contract to the Kroger Co., 855 Coshocton Ave.

Rite Aid held the contract before closing last year.

Kroger has not yet opened the agency.

According to Brandon Klein, public information officer for the Ohio Department of Commerce, voters previously approved the sale of wine and mixed beverages on Sunday at Kroger.

Now, Kroger is asking voters to allow the sale of spirituous liquor on Sunday. Spirituous liquor is alcohol containing 21% ABV (alcohol by volume) or higher.

Citizens in Precinct 007, Mount Vernon 3-A, will vote on the Kroger liquor option.

Englefield Inc., 4 Newark Road, is asking voters to approve the sale of wine and mixed beverages on Sunday. The address is the site of the former Rite Aid store.

Englefield Inc. does business as Englefield Oil Co. and operates convenience stores under the Duchess Shoppe banner.

It also operates several Long John Silvers, Taco Bell, and Subway fast-food restaurants, as well as truck stops.

Voters in Precinct 003, Mount Vernon 1-C, will vote on this issue.

Voters in Precinct 004, Mount Vernon 2-A, will also see an option for Sunday sales.

Pephillies Inc., DBA Avalos Foods, is asking voters to approve the sale of wine and mixed beverages as well as spirituous liquor on Sunday at 101-103 S. Main St.

Constituents in Precinct 004, Mount Vernon 2-A, will vote on this option.
