MOUNT VERNON — The Nov. 4 General Election is rapidly approaching, and the contested Mount Vernon City Council races include political newcomers who are vying for council seats.
Taylor Jacklin, Jennifer Shoman, and Greg Yashnyk are all write-in candidates seeking the council’s 3rd Ward seat.
Incumbents Amber Keener and Mel Severns, along with Dale Miller and Alan Reed, are vying for one of three at-large council seats. Reed is also a write-in candidate.
Knox Pages will host a “Candidate Conversations” Q&A on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Woodward Opera House. The Woodward is located at 107 S. Main St.
The event is free to the public, although an RSVP is requested. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Residents will have the opportunity to learn how the candidates plan to address the issues facing the City of Mount Vernon.
This is not a debate. It’s a moderated Q&A with equal time, respectful tone, and straightforward questions about city priorities and representation.
Live questions will not be taken from the audience. If you have a question for the candidates, email it to cheryl@knoxpages.com by Oct. 20.
To acquaint citizens with the candidates, Knox Pages asked them to complete a questionnaire. Knox Pages will run their responses on Oct. 14 and Oct. 15.
