The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County invites you to the next event of its 2025 Local History Series on Wednesday, Oct. 15, at 6:30 pm.

The community has been blessed with a rich history: A past filled with interesting characters who are no longer with us. Some of them we learn about from old newspaper articles or in the pages of history books. Others we know from local lore or stories passed on by previous generations.

Community members might even remember a few from their childhood. But perhaps some of those historical characters are not quite so locked in the past as others. In a sense, some of them might still be around.

The community is invited to join historical researcher and psychic medium Beth Deering as she explores this possibility with an evening of ghost stories, experiences with the unexplained, and true-life encounters with some of the historic individuals who once made Mount Vernon their home—and who may remain here even today.

Community members invited to present their encounters

Deering has a good deal of material to present, much of it connected to familiar places in Mount Vernon and the surrounding area. However, we are also interested in inviting those who have had their own encounters with bygone characters to share them. Everyone else is welcome to just listen, learn about the past, and enjoy the anecdotes.

This presentation and discussion will take place in the Multipurpose Room at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, located at 201 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon.

Anyone who wants to share their own work, research, or experience, especially as it relates to history, people, and events in Mount Vernon and Knox County, as part of this Speaker Series in the coming months, is encouraged to contact the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County at (740) 392-2665 or via email at mvknoxpubliclibrary@gmail.com.
