MOUNT VERNON — In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), New Hope Industries celebrates all individuals with disabilities employed in the community and the businesses that employ them.
This year’s theme is “Celebrating Value and Talent.”
As part of this year’s NDEAM celebration, New Hope Industries recognizes Lakota Muston.
Muston has worked as a dishwasher for the past eight years and currently works for Pioneer Catering at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. She exemplifies what it means to be an outstanding employee.
Muston is known for her kindness, initiative, and strong work ethic. She consistently earns positive feedback and the respect of both coworkers and managers.
She proactively assists with additional tasks and supports her team, often volunteering during the offseason. As a leader in the dish room, she leads by example and ensures that team members are well-supported.
“Lakota is one of my all-time favorite employees!” said Celeste Stamen, one of Muston’s supervisors. “She’s wonderful to coworkers, listens carefully, and does her job very well. Any cleaning task is done right. She’s very generous and thoughtful as well.”
Community employers go above and beyond
New Hope Industries values all community employers who go above and beyond in providing employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities.
Employers provide needed accommodations and communicate openly with the individuals, job coaches, and support staff to ensure the individual’s safety, well-being, and overall success.
Over the years, Ver Mac Industries has proven to be an exceptional partner to New Hope Industries. The company’s commitment extends beyond delivering quality products — it actively fosters meaningful relationships with employees and the individuals New Hope serves.
“They are proactive in resolving any concerns and consistently include the job coach in key discussions. Their collaborative approach ensures the success of all involved, cultivating a safe and inclusive environment,” said Angela Sichel, HR/Employment project manager.
