FREDERICKTOWN — This small truck stop, The Cottage Inn, used to be found on South Main Street in Fredericktown, across from Taylor’s grocery store, and next to what was later the Rite Aid.
George Wilson “Willie” and Mary Elizabeth Fisher Davis were the owners at the time. The photo was donated to the Knox Time Collection by Roger and Jeannine Davis.
Knox Time commenter Dixie Garverick noted, “My mom, Lucile Denman, cooked there. I know she was there until 1953. I am not sure when she started and I am not sure when the restaurant closed. I think it was once also called The Corner Cupboard.”
“When I first came to Fredericktown in 1951, Betty Biefness owned that little shop,” Mabel Weller commented. “I had just moved to Fredericktown and got lost driving around that area. Hard to believe that now.”
Does anyone know what time this photo is from? (Other than the obvious answer, 4:11 pm, according to the clock!) Commenter Jeff Diehl was able to at least narrow the time frame:
“Jim Burden had the gas station to the left and Ray Cochran had the greenhouse to the right. I moved from Fredericktown in 1966 … I believe it was closed prior to 1970 but not sure exactly.”
If anyone else can tell us more about this long-gone establishment, let us know on Facebook.
