John M. “Corky” Corcoran, age 73, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly after a short illness on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on June 20, 1952, to the late Robert H. and Ethel I. (Deem) Corcoran.
John is survived by his loving wife, Annie (Bishop) Corcoran, a brother, Steven D. Corcoran; sister-in-law, Mary Jo (Stevens) Corcoran; one aunt; many cousins; nephews, Andrew I. Ferguson, Kevin M. Corcoran, and Brian P. Corcoran; and a niece, Kathryn (Ferguson) Hayes.
John graduated from Mount Vernon High School in the class of 1970. After high school, John joined the Navy to serve his country. John was a jack-of-all trades. He worked as a Harley-Davidson mechanic, car mechanic, and worked at Pittsburg Plate Glass. He was a hands-on general contractor in building their home in Delaware, OH and had a business building windows. John retired from Olentangy Schools in 2021 where he worked 27 years as a school bus driver.
He enjoyed motorcycles of all kinds, he raced dirt bikes on dirt tracks and frozen lakes. He rebuilt the Harley Davidson full-dress motorcycle he currently rode. He had a multi-day trip planned for this week with his long-time friends when he went into the hospital. John also enjoyed water skiing, boating and canoeing with his brothers.
John and Annie downsized from their Delaware home and moved back to Mount Vernon where he enjoyed his time mowing their property and tending to his pond. Most of all he loved being around his friends and family.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM until the time of funeral service starting at 1:00 PM at the Snyder Funeral Home-Lasater Chapel; 11337 Upper Gilchrist Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio, 43050. Military honors will be conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
