FREDERICKTOWN — A Richland County woman was killed and another injured Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 12:25 p.m. on Ohio 95 north of Fredericktown in Knox County, troopers said.
The patrol said Alicia Johnson, 70, of Plymouth, was operating a 2020 Vespa GTS300
motorcycle southwest on Ohio 95. Bridgette Murray, 52 of Mansfield, was a passenger on the motorcycle.
Johnson failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the right side of the road and overturned, according to troopers.
Johnson and Murray were transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, according to the patrol.
Murray was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to troopers, who said Johnson sustained serious injuries.
The patrol said Murray was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Johnson was wearing a helmet, troopers said.
Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor, according to troopers.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s
Office, Fredericktown Police Department, and Fredericktown Fire/EMS.
The crash remains under investigation, according to the patrol.
It was the second fatal in Knox County during the weekend.
A 30-year-old Mansfield man died in a one-vehicle crash Friday evening, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway patrol.
