MOUNT VERNON — The status is … the liquor license has been awarded!

According to Kristen Castle, director of brand and marketing strategy for the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Liquor Control, the DOLC awarded the liquor license to the Kroger store on Coshocton Avenue.

The DOLC notified the Kroger Co. on May 14.

Eleven sites initially applied for the license. However, none of them met the DOLC’s standards, so the agency reposted the Request for Proposals.

The application deadline for the second round was April 14.

Castle said there is no mandated timeframe for a location to become operational.

“While we did award on May 14, the process to be operational now begins, with several required steps in the process such as training, inspections, receiving inventory, etc.,” she said via email.

Local Kroger officials referred questions to the corporate office in Westerville. The corporate office has not yet responded.
