Radiation therapy is one of the most common treatments for cancer. More than half of the people with cancer get radiation as part of their care.

It might be called radiotherapy, irradiation, x-ray therapy, radiation treatment, or sometimes, simply radiation.

The decision to use radiation therapy depends on the type and stage of cancer, and other health problems a patient might have. For these reasons, it’s important that the Radiation Oncology team develops an individualized treatment plan for each patient.
