Danville is a four-year certified Tree City USA, which requires a municipal tree committee. Danville’s tree committee meets quarterly, village councilmember Jill Byers said. Councilmember Jeff Furay is the chairman.
Having an Arbor Day observance is another standard of being a Tree City.
The three planted trees, two maple and one Japanese maple, cost roughly $300, Furay said.
After discussing factoids about trees, Danville’s second graders grabbed metal shovels and started digging dirt.
Students each had their chance to move Earth over the newly planted trees, showcasing their work for decades to come.
