ONTARIO — Merista Brown finished a triple shy of the cycle as Danville beat Ashland 7-4 on opening day of the Mid-Ohio Spring Classic softball event at Marshall Park.

Brown doubled and scored in the first and belted a solo shot in the seventh as the Blue Devils improved to 13-0.

Alicia Humphrey had two hits including a homer, knocked in two and scored three runs.

Addy Bocock picked up the complete game win, giving up eight hits and two earned runs while striking out six.

Maddy Hoffman had a pair of hits for the Arrows (4-6), including a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth.

Marlee Henderson took the loss. She gave up four hits and five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work.

Danville plays Perry at 9 a.m. Saturday in the second game of the four-team round-robin pool. Ashland meets Hubbard at 9 a.m.
