MOUNT VERNON — Recognizing the value of safe disposal of sensitive financial documents to avoid identity theft,  CES Credit Union and Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention are cooperating for a Shred Day on Saturday, May 10.

The event will be held at the Knox County Service Center parking lot, which is located at the corner of East Chestnut and North McKenzie Streets. It is open from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

There is no cost, and up to five boxes of personal documents will be shredded onsite by licensed and bonded contractors, so community members can avoid tedious hours shredding documents.

Please note the following:

•Staples and paper clips may remain on the documents to be shredded.

•Remove all large binder clips and three-ring binders.

•No wet or moldy documents will be accepted.

•Boxes should be approximately the size of a banker’s or copier paper box. Avoid using trash bags that could tear.

•The event is not intended for business use.

•Verify that no foreign or metal items like tools, scissors, pliers, etc., are included with the documents to be shredded.

Documents acceptable for Shred Day

•Old personal financial (bank or credit union) statements, especially those over seven years old.

•Tax documents, especially those over seven years old.

•Old and unnecessary receipts and bills showing your name, address, and account number.

•Expired policies.

For several years, CES Credit Union has partnered with Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention for the Shred Day event.

CES Credit Union is a community credit union serving residents and workers of Ashland, Coshocton, Delaware, Holmes, Knox, Licking, Morrow, and Richland counties. It is federally insured by NCUA and operates six locations in the region: Mount Vernon, Coshocton, Delaware, Loudonville, and Utica.

Knox County Recycling and Litter Prevention is associated with the Delaware, Knox, Marion, Morrow (DKMM) Joint Solid Waste District.

This event is helpful because Opportunity Knox discontinued its paper shredding service in February.
