Eleanor Doup, age 95, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 24, 1929, in Knox County, Ohio, the daughter of Lawrence and Edna (Butcher) Steinmetz. Eleanor was a 1947 graduate of Gambier High School and worked for 22 years at First Knox National Bank.

Eleanore enjoyed the simple things in life. She liked working in her flower garden, taking trips to Amish country to shop, attending her grandchildren’s activities and family gatherings. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Brad) Coon of Mount Vernon, grandsons, Shad (Chrissy) Bevington and Corby (Brittany) Coon, step son, David (Linda) Doup, step daughter, Dee Ann Milligan of North Carolina, numerous step grandchildren and great grandchildren, a brother, Gary (Janice) Steinmetz of Gambier and a sister, Ilene Bird of Oklahoma.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jack Doup (1990), a brother, Roy Steinmetz and a sister, Joan Steinmetz.

The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Eleanor Doup.

Memorial contributions in Eleanor’s name may be made to the Hopewell United Methodist Church or the Knox County Animal Shelter.
