CLINTON TOWNSHIP — A Howard man was killed and two Mount Vernon men were seriously injured in a one-vehicle crash on Saturday morning, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Tyler J. Schlairet, 34, was a passenger who was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident took place on State Route 229 at milepost 7 in Clinton Township at approximately 4:28 a.m.
The Patrol reported that Aaron Bolton, 31, of Mount Vernon was driving and failed to negotiate a curve, driving off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole. Bolton was also ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Knox Community Hospital and later flown to Grant Hospital in Columbus with life-threatening injuries.
In addition, Landon M. Miller, 19, of Mount Vernon, was a passenger in the vehicle and transported to Knox Community Hospital. He too was later transported to Grant Hospital with serious injuries.
According to the Patrol, alcohol is a suspected factor in the crash.
None of the occupants of the car were wearing a seatbelt, authorities stated.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, the Mount Vernon Police and the Mount Vernon Fire/EMS.
