MOUNT VERNON — One man was found dead and another was arrested Saturday after a shooting at a Mount Vernon Dollar General Store, according to the city’s Police Department.
Patrick D. Yoder, 36, was arrested and will be charged with aggravated murder with a firearms specification, stated a press release issued Saturday night. Yoder was taken into custody without incident.
According to a Mount Vernon Police Department press release, officers arrived at the Dollar General, located in the Kroger Plaza on Coshocton Avenue, in response to a reported shooting around 4:17 p.m.
Officers found a dead man in the store. No other victims were located in the building. Authorities stated the victim’s name won’t be released at this time in accordance with Marsy’s Law.
The release states witnesses told officers the alleged suspect fled the scene.
While Mount Vernon police officers were securing the scene, Knox County Sheriff’s deputies located the alleged suspect’s vehicle.
Deputies detained two adult occupants in the vehicle while conducting a traffic stop. One was a male the other was a female.
According to the release, Yoder was the male, and he will be transported to the Knox County Jail following a medical evaluation and held without bond.
As the investigation continues, further details of the incident will be released as appropriate, police said. The victim’s family has been notified.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Knox County Coroner’s Office and the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office were also on scene.
