Lawrence Earl Bower II, 71, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, at Knox Community Hospital after a long and courageous battle with complications from COVID-19. Born on February 14, 1954, in Mount Vernon, Lawrence was the son of the late Lawrence Bower and Dolores Young Bower Heagren.

A proud 1972 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, Lawrence went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Navy. He later attended Ohio University, where he cultivated a lifelong love of learning. Lawrence was a man of many talents and passions, leaving an indelible mark on his community and those who knew him.

For many years, Lawrence owned and operated The Donut Hole on Main Street, where his warm smile and delicious treats became a beloved part of the community. He later retired from Kenyon College after 25 years of dedicated service.

Lawrence had a deep appreciation for history and collectibles. He was an avid auction-goer and antique collector, amassing an impressive collection of metal Cracker Jack toys. His passion for numismatics led him to serve as president of the local numismatic club.

A man of faith, Lawrence was a devoted member of the Grove Church of Christ and the Knights of Pythias. Above all, he cherished his family and was a devoted father to his children, Haley and Skyler Bower. His big heart and unwavering love for his family were the cornerstones of his life.

Lawrence is survived by his children, Haley and Skyler Bower; his sisters, Deborah (David) Rozanski of New Jersey and Kimberly Hill of Fredericktown; his brothers, Thomas (Connie) Bower and Robert (Jean) Heagren of Gambier; Half-sister Becky (Bill) Metcalf, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Bower; his mother and stepfather, Dolores and Harry “Ed” Heagren; his brother, Keith Bower; and his great-nephews, Malachi and Lucas.

Lawrence’s real passion was cooking, and he delighted in preparing meals for his loved ones. His kitchen was always filled with laughter, love, and the aroma of his latest culinary creation.

A funeral service will be held at the Snyder Funeral Home – Lasater Chapel Friday February 14th, 2025 at 1:00pm to honor Lawrence’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Lawrence’s memory.

Lawrence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His kindness, generosity, and love for life will forever remain in our hearts.
