Amanda Poorman, MSN, APRN-CNM, is a board-certified nurse midwife dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive women’s healthcare at Knox Community Hospital. She holds a Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Nurse Midwifery and has successfully passed the national certification exam administered by the American Midwifery Certification Board. With advanced training in Women’s health, Amanda offers a full range of services across the lifespan, including gynecological exams, family planning, pregnancy care, labor and delivery, postpartum support, and menopause management.

As a certified nurse midwife, Amanda is committed to ensuring safe and personalized care throughout pregnancy and childbirth. While many women with low-risk pregnancies choose midwifery care, if a pregnancy becomes high-risk, Amanda has a well-established plan to collaborate with her physician partners to ensure the best possible care for both mother and baby.

There is a common misconception that certified nurse midwives only assist with unmedicated or natural births. In reality, nurse midwives support all birth plans, including those where pain management options such as epidurals and other medications are desired. While some midwives do attend home births, the majority of certified nurse midwives, including Amanda, deliver within hospital labor and delivery units or free-standing birth centers, ensuring access to comprehensive medical support if needed.

Beyond pregnancy and childbirth, Amanda provides care for women at every stage of life. She addresses medical conditions that may arise and supports women as they transition through various phases, including reproductive health, menopause, and overall well-being. Her goal is to empower women with knowledge, options, and individualized care tailored to their unique needs.
