Judy Divelbiss, 82, of Fredericktown Ohio, died February 3, 2025, at Edgewood Manor Memory Care Center in Port Clinton.
Judy was born December 1, 1942 to Myrtle and Alton Snyder. She was a graduate of Sharpsville High School and Penn Hall Junior College. She also studied at Marietta College where she met the love of her life, her husband Joe.
Judy began her journalism career at the Marietta Times just out of college. She went on to become editor of the Mount Vernon News and the Knox County Citizen where she was known for her creative writing and for capturing photos of human interest. She retired in 2006 from the Knox County Health Department and remained a tireless worker long after. She was instrumental and passionate about promoting tourism in Knox County and wrote many grants, not the least of which was a large grant for the development of downtown Fredericktown. She would be thrilled to see so many of her aspirations realized there today! Judy was also known for the many photos she took, not only of Fredericktown and the people there but also of babies and weddings and so many FHS seniors. She was a talented fabric artist and started the first Annual Market Day Quilt Show that continues today. Judy judged photo entries for the Fredericktown Tomato Show and was never without a camera in her hand at any Freddie event.
She was our Grinny and she will be missed by her loving family, a son, J. Tracy Divelbiss of Fredericktown; two daughters, Wendy (Patrick) McCarthy of Marblehead and Jenny (Jason) Parker of Westerville; four grandchildren, Alex (Leanna) Parker of Highland, MI, Cole Parker of Livonia MI, Austin Divelbiss of Rehoboth, MA and Anna Divelbiss of West Hollywood CA; her great-grandson Joey Parker; her brother Bill (Cindy) Snyder of Supply, NC, a sister in law Christi (P.A.) Dunfee of Marblehead and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Judy’s life is planned for Friday February 7, 2025, at 4:30 pm at the Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends immediately following. A private burial will be at Forest Cemetery at a later date.
Donations can be made to the Joe and Judy Divelbiss Memorial Scholarship fund through the Knox County Foundation or be left at the services with family.
