GAMBIER — This February brings a chance for middle schoolers (grades 6-8) to have an extraordinary, sensory, hands-on science experience on Kenyon College’s campus with Science Saturday.
The spring session Science Saturday program is back with the theme “Light, Lasers, ‘Lectricity.” Students will have fun with luminescence, making flashlights, playing with circuits and exploring other fascinating properties of light, all while having fun working together.
This program takes place on Saturday, Feb. 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Kenyon’s Science Quadrangle, 201 N. College Road. Registration is open on a first-come, first-served basis and will remain open until Feb. 10, unless all slots are filled earlier. Registration and additional information can be found at kenyon.edu/community-programming.
This program is free for students and includes lunch and snacks. The program includes multiple sessions where participants will play and explore with different experiments related to the day’s theme; these sessions are broken up by a snack break.
After lunch, students participate in a larger group demonstration session, an activity and/or an “Ask-a-Scientist” Q&A with a professional scientist.
Science Saturday provides students with the opportunity to associate fun with science, be introduced to a community of scientists from all levels (including college and postgraduate), and gain exposure to fields of science and experiments not often taught at the middle or high school level.
