MOUNT VERNON — The United Way of Knox County wants to make life a little easier for our neighbors by doing the heavy lifting this tax season.
Free tax preparation assistance is available at United Way of Knox County through the financial stability initiative and in partnership with the IRS’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA program.
The staff and volunteers are trained about tax credits and updates that might put money back in your pocket, such as the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Care Tax Credit.
Tax credits like the EITC were designed to help individuals and families with low to moderate income keep more of what they earned. The staff can help you determine whether or not you qualify.
This service is for Knox County residents with low-to-moderate income as defined by the IRS: an adjusted gross income of $65,000 or less per year for single filers and $95,000 or less for married couples with dependents.
Once again, the program will only offer scheduled curbside appointments in which taxpayers remain in their vehicle throughout the duration of their appointment. No drop-in appointments will be accepted.
To set up a curbside appointment, phone 740-397-5721, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
United Way offers limited evening and Saturday appointments on a first call, first serve basis. Taxpayers are responsible for providing our staff with all necessary and accurate tax documents.
A complete list will be provided when you schedule your appointment. Individual refunds will vary.
United Way of Knox County is a cornerstone of community wellness and success. We strategically connect partners and resources to community needs to measurably impact the quality of the lives of Knox County residents.
