MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon girls basketball team controlled Heath from start to finish on Wednesday night.
When it was over, the Yellow Jackets owned a 45-28 decision over the Bulldogs to pick up a Licking County League victory.
Senior Rees Lepley paced Mount Vernon with 13 points, while Mandy Jones chipped in 10.
Peyton Del Cecato was the only Heath player to reach double digits with 12 points.
The Yellow Jackets opened a 12-8 first-quarter edge, and expanded the gap to 18-12 at halftime. Mount Vernon opened the margin to 33-22 through three periods, then enjoyed a 12-6 margin in the final canto to finish it.
MV was 14-of-17 at the free-throw line, compared to 3-of-8 for the visitors.
Mount Vernon improves to 11-4 overall, 7-3 in the LCL and second place to Granville who is unbeaten in the league standings.
Heath drops to 4-12, 3-8. The Bulldogs play at Johnstown on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets host Licking Valley on Saturday.
