Junior A. Martin, age 91, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, at his residence. He was born on March 28, 1933, in Coshocton, Ohio, to the late Albert and Susie (Longstreth) Martin.
Junior loved God and family and made them a priority all of his adult life. He is a veteran of the United States Army and was very proud of serving his country. He worked for several years at PPG and Jervis Webb before retiring. He did not wait for retirement to travel the USA with his wife, children and grandchildren. He and Lydia traveled by car to all of the 48 contiguous United States in their 62 years of marriage. Junior was quite the handyman, completing all of the repairs and remodeling on their home over the years. Junior also loved going to church and was attending Fargo Wesleyan Church at the time of his death.
He loved teaching Sunday school for many years. He always said he learned more when he taught than when he was a student. Junior completed an 8th grade education before he had to leave school to work. He later earned his GED as an adult. He was a lifelong learner reading his Bible and other books daily. He loved playing with his children and grandchildren. He would pick up the grandkids and take them on the “grand tour” of the house when they got fussy. Junior never knew a stranger and enjoyed talking to almost anyone about Jesus, his childhood years, his family, his work and his time in the military.
Junior is survived by his loving wife, Lydia Ann (Smith) Martin; a daughter, Brenda (Andrew) Grimes; a son, David A. Martin; grandchildren, Will (Amanda) Grimes, Breanna Grimes, Beth Ann (Kody) Kadesch; great-grandchildren, Madison, Ethan, Kayden, Elijah, Kora; a great-great-grandchild, Delilah; a sister, Shirley Spellman; several nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Junior is preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Martin, Charles Martin, Carl Martin, Ernest Martin; sisters, Edith Jackson and Menedta Fletcher.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, from 12 pm until the time of the funeral service starting at 1:00 PM at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home: 619 E.
