Mary Jane Barkman Hatton, 77, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025 at Mount Carmel Saint Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. She was born in Toledo on June 5, 1947 to the late Eugene M. and Areta M. (Aller) Barkman.
Mary was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon and the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Toledo. Mary was a Registered Nurse working in Pediatrics and with Hospice. She was a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts, and she started the Kids in Safe Seats in Knox County. She enjoyed planning family reunions, reading, watching and collecting Star Trek memorabilia, doing theater, singing, crafting, baking, attending her book club and spending time with her CCL friends.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Jennifer (J.R. Moreland) Moore of Howard and Leslie Lane of New Albany; granddaughter, Faith Moore of Howard; a great grandson, Braxton Walls of Howard, her first cousin who was like a sister, Beth Ann Choate of Monroe, MI; and son-in-law, Jim Moore of Delaware.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Marie Hatton.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025 at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Flowers Chapel, 619 East High St., Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025 in the Chapel at Toledo Memorial Park, 6382 Monroe St., Sylvania, OH 43560. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Chapel at Toledo Memorial Park. Burial will follow the funeral service in the Memorial Park.
