About the event:
The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is officially launching a new monthly local history roundtable discussion series in 2025.
Under the heading of “Knox County Conversations”, local residents are invited to come and share their memories of the “old days” in Mount Vernon and Knox County—even if those “old days” do not seem all that long ago.
Turnout was quite high at the project’s soft launch in December where participants came to the library and remembered Christmas shopping in Knox County, long-departed department stores, and other aspects of the area’s holiday season in past decades. They also were given the opportunity to look at old photographs and newspaper advertisements that brought back memories and triggered fascinating discussions.
The theme for January’s discussion is “Movies and Entertainment in Mount Vernon and Knox County”. Those who remember the downtown theaters and local drive-ins are obviously welcome to attend …as is anyone who enjoys local history, pleasant conversation, and delicious soup.
Did we mention that the conversations occur over delicious bowls of soup?
This Knox County Conversation will occur at noon on Thursday, January 16th, 2025 in the Multipurpose Room at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry Street, in Mount Vernon.
We hope to see you there.
