Gordon Dale Scott, Sr. (known as “Scottie” to many), age 80, of Mount Vernon was called to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 30, 2024. He was born on September 21, 1944, near Gambier, to the late Charles Everett, Sr. and Ethel May (Butler) Scott.

A son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and child of God, Gordon loved his family. He grew up farming and always held a fondness for it, even though it did not become his adult profession. He had an unfailing loyalty to Farmall tractors. He was a hardworking man and a man of many talents and skills. In his youth, he attended auctioneer school where he made a record of the auctioneer song. One of his favorite and most cherished things to do in his adult life was “calling” square dances.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Mount Vernon, Ohio.

Surviving are his daughters, Shirley (Dan) Weaver of Oak Island, NC, Sharla (Joe) Pullins of Mount Vernon, OH; his sons, Chris (Carissa) Scott of DeQuincy, LA, Steven Scott of Newark, OH; six grandchildren, Ray (Tessie) Summerfield, Jonathan (Emily) Weaver, Erica Pullins, Bethany (Garrett) Rayfield, Carter Scott, and Cole Scott; seven great-grandchildren, Emma Summerfield, Anna Summerfield, Ashlynn Weaver, Xavier Weaver, Xander Weaver, Braxton Rayfield, and Elliott Rayfield; and special close family friend Donald Trout.

Besides his parents, Gordon was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Karen Kay (McMurtry) Scott; infant son, Gordon Dale Scott, Jr. and granddaughter, Amanda Jo Morton. He was also preceded in death by his sisters; Ethel Jane (Parker), Marie (Brookins) and Mary (Allen), brothers; Melvin and Dwight (Rodney), and infant brother Charles E., Jr.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Dowds – Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, OH 43050. The going home celebration service will be Friday, December 6, 2024 at 11:00 am at the Snyder Funeral Homes: Dowds Chapel with Rev. LJ Harry officiating.

Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier, OH
