Carroll W. Lewis
Submitted by Connie Lewis Fitzpatrick
Branch of Service: Army Sergeant
My father Carroll W. Lewis, was a proud Sergeant of the U.S. Army. He dutifully served in WWII in England & France. Joining a few days after Pearl Harbor was attacked. He was a young country boy suddenly in a mans world far from the farm life. While in the Army he became a boxer and entertained his troop & fellow troops sometimes the winner and sometimes the loser. He “bragged” that he was shipped home on the Queen Mary, porting in CA. I was thankful that he had this pleasure after the horror he had lived and saw while in Europe serving our country. My father returned home from the war, married and started his family and his own roofing business. He put roofs on many homes & businesses in the Knox & Morrow County areas for over 40 years. He always worked hard and did his best in the Army as well as in his civilian life after coming home from the war.
I thank my father for serving his country and his part on keeping the USA a free country!
